Ending the 'Russian roulette care choice'

Recent research has shown that those requiring care are playing ‘Russian roulette’ after the Care Quality Commission discovered that drug errors, lack of staff and falls were major problems throughout 24,000 care services. The findings have been described as ‘completely unacceptable’ after a third of nursing homes were found to have fallen short on safety. There is a huge demand for care services with one million vulnerable people requiring care throughout the UK. Unacceptably, the current care industry is clearly unable to provide the level of service expected and required by the Care Quality Commission and patients.

With the UK population of those older than 85 set to double over the next 25-30 years, there has never been a more urgent time to reinvent a care industry that clearly isn’t working. Running on the 25 & 26th April 2018 at NEC, Birmingham, The Dementia Care & Nursing Home Expo is an event specifically designed to combat negligence and other problems within the care industry through helping care home businesses develop and grow their organisations.

There is an inherent lack of choice available to those in need of care and the industry has, because of this, become incredibly negligent. The problem with the care industry currently lies in an inadequate supply of credible care home facilities. Currently, the care industry is compounded of a low supply and high demand, thus, homes have become complacent and are neglecting to adequately train, monitor and employ qualified staff. In order to amend the current mess the care industry finds itself in, growth needs to be generated. By facilitating growth in the care sector, we will see a rise in the number of spaces available. Homes will be forced to compete with each other, culminating in a vast improvement to the services and facilities available to patients. More so, those care homes who do not adapt and improve their services, will find themselves squeezed out of the market, facilitating yet another increase in the quality of care available.

The serious negligence demonstrated in recent news articles and the need for growth within the industry has long been a concern and key aim of those involved in organising the Dementia Care & Nursing Home Expo, hence why the event is being launched. We provide unrivalled expert insight into the care industry through exclusively selected speakers whose care homes are exceptionally successful examples of how care homes should be run. Our industry leading speakers, who have achieved and maintained an incredible rating and reputation, will provide unparallelled advice on how to obtain, among other topics, an outstanding rating from CQC. Additionally, we also provide access to demonstrations and showcases of state-of-the-art products, technology and trends that are reinventing services such as care support, training, management and resources.
